MK113 - Gary Rogowski - The Art of Woodworking

Gary Rogowski is a furniture maker, author, teacher, and podcaster. He gained a degree in literature from Reed College and then took this training straight to the quiet of a craftsman’s bench. For 25 years, he designed and built furniture in Portland, Oregon for private clients, galleries, and public commissions. In 1991, he won the Oregon Arts Commission Fellowship in Crafts.

After years of teaching at various craft schools in the U.S. and Europe, in 1997 he founded The Northwest Woodworking Studio, a School for Woodworkers, where he is the Director. When Covid hit, he shut his Studio in Portland. Classes are now all online and can be found at https://northwestwoodworking.com.

Gary was a Contributing Editor for Fine Woodworking Magazine for fourteen years and the author of numerous articles, videos, and two books on woodworking. He is the author of Handmade: Creative Focus in the Age of Distraction (Linden Press, 2017). His essays and short stories have been published in Coldnoon Journal, Praxis Magazine, Umbrella Factory, and Craftsmanship.net. He is currently working on a podcast called Creativity: Hustlers, Fakers, and Thieves.
